USATF Bermuda Grand Prix Returns for Second Year

Track and Field Stars Including Noah Lyles, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and Abby Steiner Set to Attend*

Indianapolis, USA – May 10, 2023: USA Track & Field (USATF), Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) and Bermuda National Athletics Association (BNAA) are pleased to announce the return of the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix in partnership with the Puma American Track League on May 21, 2023.

Serving as the fifth stop on the World Athletics Continental Tour – Gold, the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix will provide athletes with the opportunity to earn valuable World Athletics Rankings points across 16 events.

Tracy Berkeley, BTA CEO said, “We are thrilled to bring the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix back for a second year. With the success of last year’s event, sports tourism continues to prove it has a place within our island and organisational objectives. We look forward to welcoming all the best-in-class athletes to our shores for what is sure to be a weekend of dynamic and exhilarating competition.”

Now in its second year, the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix boasts a robust, sprint-heavy list of events. The men’s and women’s 100, 200, 400, and 4x100, men’s 1500 and 110 hurdles, and women’s 100 and 400 hurdles are scheduled for the track, while field events on the docket include the men’s and women’s long jump and men’s triple jump. Bringing further excitement to the event will be the inclusion of a men’s and women’s 4x100 relay. In addition to Lyles, Camacho-Quinn and Steiner, global track and field stars including Christian Coleman, Steven Gardiner, Dalilah Muhammad, Christian Taylor, Andre DeGrasse, Ese Brume, Dage Minors* are set to attend the event, bringing world class talent to Bermuda for the second year in a row. Additionally, long jumpers Tara Davis-Woodhall and Quanesha Burks - current world number 1 and 2 - will face- off for the first time since their highly publicized meeting at LSU in April.

“Partnering with USATF to bring a world class track and field event to Bermuda is a testament to the sports capabilities we exhibited when delivering the inaugural event. Like a relay race, it has taken a collective effort from the BTA, Bermuda National Athletics Association (BNAA), sponsors and residents to ensure the event reaches the finish line,” said three-time U.S. Olympian Hazel Clark, BTA Director of Global Sales & Business Development.

This year, the event will once again engage the youth of Bermuda with USATF and Hershey’s “RunJumpThrow” program, a hands-on learning program that gets kids excited about physical activity by introducing them to the basic running, jumping, and throwing skills through track and field. The activity will take place at Flora Duffy Stadium on May 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. On the same day, Bermuda’s talented youth will also get to partake in the Athene Fastest Kid on the Rock race to find the quickest talent the island has to offer.

The weekend’s schedule will also include Move More Bermuda, the inaugural Seniors Games, an inclusive initiative which encourages the island’s seniors to get involved in more athletic activity. Taking place on May 20, the activity is open to all persons 50+ to compete in 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m and 3000m races, as well as long jump and shot put. Additionally, Seniors will have the opportunity to participate in The Fastest Fox on the Rock on the same day.

“Following the success of the USATF Bermuda Games in 2022, we’re excited to be returning for a second time. As an island with strong track and field heritage, we’re pleased to bring both global talent and the eyes of the world to Bermuda. Our continued partnership with BTA and BNAA is a testament to the strength of the relationship between the organizations and we thank them for their incredible hospitality,” said Max Siegel, CEO of USA Track & Field.

Organizers look forward to welcoming thousands of spectators to cheer the participants to World Class performances while providing local youth with exposure and inspiration. Sponsors and community members are encouraged to contact the Bermuda Tourism Authority to learn about partnership and corporate hospitality opportunities.

The USATF Bermuda Grand Prix in partnership with the Puma American Track League will be broadcast on NBC in the United States and Caribbean, and several different countries around the world, LIVE, on May 21, 2023, from 2:00pm – 4:00pm EDT.
